ANGIS Overview

Situation Analysis

Your facility owns a character generator which provides superior on-air graphics and your senior management wishes to use it for upcoming election coverage. Additionally, your facility has a local area network of computers on which it wishes to install PC-based software that can handle the data flow of election returns plus the graphics display of the returns.

Since elections are cyclical, your facility wishes to purchase a product that can be used daily for other functions to maximize the return on investment. There are some PC-based products on the market; however, Media Computing has ANGIS which will most cost-effectively meet your facility's needs.

The following highlights the features which position ANGIS and Media Computing beyond other vendors' products on the market:

Windows

  • ANGIS runs on Windows NT, 2000 and XP.
  • ANGIS has a Data Base Wizard which provides quick and easy data base record set-ups.
  • ANGIS is the only system on the market that provides user-definable producer status screens; flexibility includes the defining of font size, screen and data colors, number of columns and amount of information.
  • ANGIS is the only system on the market that allows the client to define producer status screens on a producer by producer basis.
  • ANGIS is the only system that allows up to 500 status screens per producer.

  • ANGIS was the first PC-based character generator interface/election system; first used in March 1986 at WLS-TV in Chicago
  • Media Computing has a strong reputation in customer service and support. Beyond providing 24-hour support under the maintenance agreement, Media Computing staff provides assistance in election coverage organization. They are the only vendor that has a pro active pre-election management assistance program to assist clients in preparing for their elections.
  • Beginning five weeks out from an election, Media Computing staff maintains contact by phone, fax and/or modem with clients to gauge their progress and provide assistance to ensure a successful, minimal stress election night.

Flexibility

  • ANGIS system design is similar to a spreadsheet and is not restricted to handling just elections. At no extra charge, ANGIS can be programmed to handle daily tasks such as
    • program lineups,
    • weather displays,
    • weather closing information,
    • sports data
    • Just about anything that contains variable information to be displayed on a character generator.

Other systems may have specific modules to handle different types of displays but they charge extra for the modules.

  • ANGIS optional software components can be added at initial purchase or in the future:
    • ANGIS Pro offers an even more sophisticated interface to the CG with the added capability of interfacing and controlling other external devices such as still stores or VTRs.
    • Web Extractor allows ANGIS Pro users to extract data directly from traffic, election, weather and other web sites.
    • GateKeeper allows the sharing of the character generator between ANGIS and another automation system. No other vendor offers this.
